Brierfield People’s Centre officially opened in March 2005 after an extensive period of renovation designed to bring it up to contemporary standards, both in terms of amenities offered and also health and safety requirements. It has been set up to serve the needs of the Brierfield and Reedley communities, which up until now have lacked the facilities which are available here.
The Centre has been designed with a great deal of consideration for people with disabilities. Much emphasis has been placed on providing full access to every room for wheelchair users with the aid of a lift to each floor. Additionally, we have installed specially adapted disabled toilets with strategically placed grab handles and wider entrances on the first and second floor to avoid any undue inconvenience.
A newly fitted kitchen is situated on the first floor. All the equipment is of industrial / commercial quality and is fully compliant with rigorous health and fire safety requirements. It can be used to prepare fresh food or to re-heat and serve provisions brought in by outside caterers as part or a booking
The Centre also provides a physical base for other organisations to operate from either on a permanent or sessional basis. Our policy has always been to provide equal access to all sections of the community. Therefore, our facilities are available for use by all categories of organisations, whether voluntary, statutory, charitable or commercial.
