Brierfield Cyber Café is one of the key projects being delivered by Brierfield Action in the Community (BAIC) and are registered as a 'not for profit organisation' and a 'Registered Charity'.
The aim of the project is to:
Establish an Internet café for local residents of Brierfield
Provide much needed access to ICT facility for a Community in Need.
The project will:
Provide access to ICT equipment for local people. Equipment will be purchased to provide general IT support and access to the Internet Provide specialist support to support local people to use the equipment and gain the fullest benefit from the resources Establish specific sessions for all groups in the community to ensure that every one has an equal opportunity to use the facilities
There will also be open sessions where any resident can use the facility
Opportunities will be created for volunteers, volunteers will be trained to act as mentors to users of the site
Sessional workers will be employed to work with the project manager , volunteers and users of the café
A family room is being developed, with support from Sure Start (Brierfield and Walverden). Books and toys will be provided for children to help carers to access facilities
Young and old are being encouraged to use the centre. It will provide facilities to help with homework( research, word processing ) search for jobs, CV development and simply engaging as wide a population in a community in need with importance and relevance of ICT and the e-Revolution
Support and Funding Funding has been sought from a number of sources – Pendle Partnership, Pendle Borough Council, European Funds, Brierfield Town Council and the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund. |
